Our process is designed to be thorough and comprehensive:

Step 1: Begins with a comprehensive assessment, which includes the prospective resident, their family and their physician.

Step 2: We develop a customized plan of care taking into consideration the resident’s social history and medical needs along with their recreational interests, spiritual dimensions and other personal issues to ensure their well-being and comfort.

Step 3: Monitor each individual as they adapt to their new environment and adjust their care plan accordingly.

You can expect to receive top quality care including:

Specially Trained Care Staff on Site
Our staff works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, following Emerson House’s philosophy to help each person be as independent as possible for a long as possible. Our four progressive levels of care ensures that each person gets the appropriate amount of assistance with their daily living and medical needs, and our person-centered approach to care means that all services are delivered in a manner that respects the individual’s relationships, life experiences, abilities and preferences.

Barrier-Free Floor Plan
A circular floor plan on our Middle and Upper Terrace provides easy access to the shared living, dining, activity and outdoor areas on each floor and a continuous walking opportunity throughout the day. Our Lower Terrace offers an intimate, homelike environment for seven residents and opens into a beautiful courtyard enjoyed by all our residents. Closed circuit cameras throughout the building enhance residents’ safety without impeding their freedom of movement.

Dining

Meals bring back memories, enhance companionship and bring great enjoyment to our residents’ day. Our Dining Staff provides delicious freshly cooked, seasonal meals for our residents as well as special opportunities for families to celebrate holidays and other special occasions with their loved ones. Special dietary needs can be accommodated and should be discussed during the admission process.

Activities
Emerson House residents enjoy activities for body, mind and spirit including outings, walks around the neighborhood, exercise, games, discussions, gardening, art, music, pet visits and social events to name just a few. A partnership with Urban Excursions allows residents to go on bus outings, including lunch stops, around Portland and beyond. Please see our events tab for current activity calendars as well as information about other Special Events at Emerson House.

On-Site Amenities
Optional primary care provider services provided by Housecall Providers, Elderplace and Kaiser Permanente’s Primary Care at Home, monthly visits by Foot Care 4 U and Smiles All Around, massage services provided by Ridgeline Clinic and an in-house beauty/barber shop are among the many services we offer to address special care needs and provide pampering.

Family Participation
Our holistic approach to care involves the person, their family and the Emerson House team. Family members are encouraged to visit regularly and participate in the activities and experiences of Emerson House. Family input, whether provided informally during conversations with staff or at our quarterly care planning conferences, is an important way that we can support both our residents and their families. A monthly family support group, special seminars and holiday gatherings offer ongoing ways Emerson House families can connect with each other.
